i will always remember that one special birthday party that i had in 2005. that was the first time i had a birthday party as a grown up. it was my 31 birthday. i have fixed the party on a saturday night so that my friends & colleagues can turn up. to my surprise, more than 12 people turned up.

we started off the night with a dinner at season's cafe taman pelangi. there were ed, yi & daughter, sue, don, FL, alice & micky. sue, don & FL purposely came in from singapore to attend the dinner & party. i was really touched. once everybody has settled down nicely at the long table & ordered their respective choice of food, i began to take photos with everyone. some were photo shy. but i forced them anyway. we chatted...we make jokes...we laughed...we gossiped...we shared opinions... i thought we were the noisiest people around.

after the meal, we proceeded to ye lai xiang. a very popular disco back then. ed booked a big room. the room was nicely decorated with balloons & ribbons. there was also a karaoke set for people to sing. ed ordered one round of beer for the first comers. i started the ball rolling by choosing a few popular songs. as i was not a good singer, i passed the mick around. being the birthday man, i demanded everyone to sing at least a song. they all gave in to my wishes.

slowly other friends arrived. stan & friend, may & friend, elaine, wk, helen & yap. more rounds of beer flowed in. i was busy serving beer. not wanting to see any empty glasses around. i also bottoms up with a few friends. yi & helen bought a orange colour short sleeve shirt with squares for me. i liked the shirt & wore it immediately. stan said that i looked smart in that shirt.

time flies when you are having fun. it was 12 midnight. time to cut the birthday cake. the cake was given free of charge by the disco. may & ed sang the birthday song in mandarin, english & cantonese. i made a wish, cut the cake & distributed to everyone. the taste was bad though. a lot of leftovers.

then ed turned off the lights and switched the karaoke set to play disco music. everyone just run wild & danced. i could see people shouting & screaming. i could see all kinds of movement. at this time, ed & may went out of the room and bought some pills. they ate 2 and the balance was mixed with beer. they poured the beer into small glasses and passed around. i drank a bit unknowingly & felt the effect instantly. i was high and full of energy. just could not stop dancing. i danced until i was exhausted & rested on the sofa. but some friends still pulled me up from the sofa to dance. i kindly rejected.

we danced until around 5 in the morning and left. ed, i & yap felt hungry & had breakfast at the kopitiam near our house. when we reached home, it was almost 7 in the morning. we just slept the whole day.

it was a great party but i was unhappy with ed & may. they should not have bought the pills. it was wrong. i just hope that they realise it.

Waiting for Love

PS is another good friend of my girl friend. they have known each other since university days. they used to be housemates too. after graduation, they went separate ways. she went to singapore to seek better fortunes while my girl friend stay put at JB. they still keep in touch all these years.

i have seen her 2-3 times but i feel that she is a nice girl. however, she is still single all these years. she hasn't really fall in love before. when she was working in singapore, she used to attend all sorts of activities in order to get to know some nice guys & eventually her mr right. but her efforts were in vain.

my girl friend did helped her once. she introduced PS to a guy friend JS from her hometown who works in JB. it was a week day. we went to JB City Square to meet them after work. JS was there first. then came PS. she was late. caught in the jam at the causeway. we went to a nice japanese restaurant to have our dinner. my girl friend started to create topic after topic of conversation. not wanting any moment of silence to set in. PS was shy and reserved. JS was more pro-active. he managed to struck a few conversation with PS. As i was new to PS & JS, i didn't talk much. but i still managed to sprung a few silly jokes here and there just to enlighten the atmosphere. by the time we finished our meal, it was already late. we decided to call it a day.

that day was the first & last time they see each other. PS moved to Yong Peng to be a partner in a kindergarden. JS was juggling time between his work, looking after his bookshop & attending chinese medicine course. may be they will find their life partner one fine day. just need to keep trying & never give up.

Elle

she is my ex-colleague. i shall refer her as elle. my girl friend is her good friend. she always share secrets with my girl friend. so i got to know some of her secrets too.

she is married with 2 boys. i always thought that she is happily married to her husband. but i was wrong. i was shocked to learn that she had an affair with her ex-colleague. the affair started way before she was married. that guy was a married man too. she cited that they were made for each other. she always ponder why they didn't meet earlier. the affair lasted for a few years without her husband's knowledge.

to my surprise, they broke off a few months ago. elle found another lover. her friend introduced her to this guy from KL. a married man too. they hit it off instantly. she even went to KL to meet him. he also came down to JB. he would call her during lunch time & send her sms. she was very excited. she was likely falling in love all over again.

unfortunately, her husband found out about her affair. they had several heated arguments. she threatened to divorce her husband. her husband loves her very much. not wanting her to leave, he allowed her to continue her affair. this is unbelievable. how could he let his wife do such thing?!!! he even tried to woo his wife back... ... ...

it has been 3 months since elle left our company. my girl friend met her once and asked her about her affair with the KL guy. she just said that they seldom contact each other now. seems like the KL guy's wife gave birth recently.

i hope that she has realised that she has done something terribly wrong.
